Sisterly Sharing

Unity is incredibly important to our Order.  Unlike many religious orders, the Order of Preachers has never split. To foster this spirit of unity among the Dominican family, the Order has recently begun a tradition of reserving the feast of the Visitation, May 31st, as a day for 'sisterly sharing' between the nuns and the active sisters. For the second year in a row, our monastery has participated in this endeavor by hosting our local Dominican sisters for an evening 'get together'. This year our visit was planned for May 9th, as we will be very busy on the 31st hosting the Monastic Theological Studies program! Last year there were sisters from three different Dominican congregations present, but this year was a more intimate gathering with just a dozen or so Dominican Sisters of Caldwell. These sisters in particular are very dear to us not only because they are Dominicans but because when we can no longer provide the care necessary for our elderly sisters they move to St. Catherine Convent at Caldwell for superb nursing care. The Caldwell Dominicans become a home away from home for our sisters and are so very good to them (and to us when we visit our sisters!)

After a lovely evening of recreation, the sisters joined us in our choir to pray Compline together.
