Perpetual Rosary Association

Mary's Guard of Honor

The Perpetual Rosary is a particular membership within the Confraternity of the Most Holy Rosary. It is a definite participation in the Perpetual Prayer of the Rosary by the cloistered Dominican Nuns who have assumed this obligation.

You are invited to join the Nuns in keeping company with Our Lady one hour each month while pondering the mysteries of the life, death, and resurrection of Jesus.  This may be in the presence of the Blessed Sacrament or at home.

Why Join the Perpetual Rosary Association?

Here are a few reasons to sign up:

  • subscribing constitutes a free act of extra love for Our Lady!

  • it makes us have a closer union of prayer with the other members-the Communion of Saints begins here on earth!

  • it makes us partakers of numerous indulgences and, finally,

  • it frees us from isolation and pessimism.

Why wait any longer? You too come to be part of our Prayer Association. Contribute too to ensuring that the Rosary is said perpetually, 24 hours a day: to the praise of God and to the honor of Mary—for the benefit of our souls.

—Did you know?

The Association of the Perpetual Rosary began in 1629 in Bologna, Italy, by Fra Timoteo di’Ricci, a relative of the great St. Catherine di’Ricci, OP in response to the plague that was assailing Italy and the city of Bologna. Because the people were not allowed to leave their homes or gather together to pray the Rosary in the Church, Fra Timoteo received the inspiration to respond to the upheaval caused by the plague by inviting the people to pray the rosary uninterruptedly in their homes. Fra Timoteo saw this movement of prayer as a militia, battling against Satan for the salvation of souls. This is why the members of the Association of the Perpetual Rosary are called Mary’s Guard of Honor.

Fra Timoteo wanted the intentions of the Rosary during the Guard of Honor to be for:
-The Agonizing
-Sinners
-The Souls in Purgatory
