A CLOISTER WITH A VIEW!
Each evening our Sr. Mary Rose Dominic enjoys the view of our gardens from the second-storey cloister. The original plans for the monastery were to have a traditional cloister, in an enclosed quadrangle with a courtyard inside. However, a lack of funds and the onset of the Great Depression (which halted construction) meant a change of plans and the creation of a cloister walk which wraps around half of the "enclosure side" of the monastery (from the community room, kitchen, refectory, ending right as the first floor dormitory begins). Beyond offering more privacy, the views of the "Summit Sunsets" can't be beat. In fact, one Sister here assures us that she "entered for the sunsets," and we're still not sure if she's joking or not!
