FEAST OF ST. CATHERINE THE GREAT MARTYR

Today is the feast of St. Catherine of Alexandria, one of the major patronesses of the Order of Preachers. The reinsertion of her feast back into the Roman Missal gives us even more cause to celebrate!

The Eastern Rite sings the following Troparian on this day. We've also been using it at Mass and Office but this year, due to the outbreak of THE COLD which has hit sisters who sing the 2nd and 3rd part, rehearsal made it clear that St. Catherine would not be well served if we sang it this year! However, we offer it to you for your meditation on the beauty of the gift of our own Baptism and desire to one day see Christ face to face!

O Jesus, your Lamb Catherine cries out to You with great love: "O my Bridegroom, I long for you in great pain, I am crucified with You, and in baptism I am buried with You. I sufffer for your sake in order to reign with You, I die for You in order to live in You. Accept me as an immaculate victim, since I am immolated for your love." Through her intercession, O Merciful One, save our souls!"
