I Will Sing to the Lord All My Life! Sr. Maria of the Cross Celebrates 50 years of Profession!
It was March 25, 1958 when Sr. Maria of the Cross, Mimi Gennaro to her friends and family, made 1st Profession as a Nun of the Order of Preachers.
Today, our beloved Sr. Maria celebrated her 50th anniversary of Profession! Because it is only 2 days after Easter the real celebrating will take place in April with both a public celebration for family and friends and a community "family celebration."
Sr. Maria is probably best known for the gift of her liturgical music, most notably the Summit Choirbook. Because of Sr. Maria our community was able to avoid modern liturgical music and kept us deeply rooted in the tradition of chant, polyphony and hymnmody. You can read an interview with Sr. Maria HERE.
Sr. Maria has also served the community as infirmarian, kitchen manager, librarian and artist. Currently, she is the librarian, helps in the kitchen and cares for Sr. Mary Anthony.
Below is a short video interview with Sr. Maria about how her Carmelite vocation turned into a Dominican one! It's been edited for length but we hope you will enjoy it!
Please join us in thanking and praising God for Sr. Maria's vocation, for her presence in our community and for the gift of her music used for His glory both in our monastery and for the Church! May God grant her many more years!
