Jersey Loses the Yellow Rose of Texas

Today we bid adieu to Sr. Mary Jeremiah as she returned to her monastery of the Infant Jesus in Lufkin, Texas after spending a year with us. Her generosity in the print shop, at dishes and in teaching the novitiate sisters was immortalized in a song Sr. Judith Miryam wrote to the tune of "The Yellow Rose of Texas."

Every cloud has a sliver lining they tell us and yesterday we had a departure party whose silver lining was Sr. Mary Jeremiah's Silver Jubilee of Profession. Above you can see Sister posing wearing the Jubilee Crown and holding a beloved yellow rose...but from New Jersey!

At the Lufkin monastery visiting nuns are often presented with a 10 gallon hat. Things are smaller here in Jersey so we presented a Giants cap as one of our gifts. The Giants might play in Jersey but the cap said NY! You can't win!

We will miss Sr. Mary Jeremiah's presence but look forward to her return as most likely there will be Formation Committee meetings held here. Sr. Mary Martin and Sr. Mary Catharine look forward to seeing Sister again in June at our monastery in Menlo Park, CA.

We ask the intercession of St. Dominic and St. Catherine for every grace and blessing for Sr. Mary Jeremiah. May her reward and the reward of her community be beyond all imagining!
