290th General Chapter of the Order of Preachers--August 31-September 21, 2010

The General Chapter of the Order of Preachers opens the evening of Tuesday, August 31st. You can follow the Chapter by going to the website. Here you can read the list of Participates, Commissions, check out videos and photos and probably (although not yet listed) read homilies and other texts. If you are up to it you can also read the Letter of Convocation...in Latin! Bro. Lawrence Lew, OP, from the Province of England is the Chronicler so we can be sure to see some great photos! The General Chapter of the Order is held every 3 years and every 9 years the Master of the Order is elected. This year, after 9 years of service to his brothers and sisters, Fr. Carlos Aspiroz Costa, OP will step down. We are grateful to him for his loving solicitude especially for the Nuns.

The General Chapter is held in different locations every time, not unlike the Olympics! This Chapter is being held at the Salesianum in Rome. We are grateful to the Sons of St. John Bosco, the Salesians, for allowing the Dominican Order to invade their college!

Please join us in praying for the overpowering of the Holy Spirit on our brethren as they prepare to choose the next friar to be in the footsteps of our Holy Father, St. Dominic as Father Master. The election is on Sunday, September 5th.
