Tantum ergo Sacramentum

The feast of Corpus Christi was extra special yesterday as we continue to rejoice in the gift of Sr. Joseph Maria's profession. It was also special because the Holy Father called the entire world to join with him in adoration of Jesus in the Blessed Sacrament. St. John Vianney used to say, "Miles melt before the Blessed Sacrament" and so we know that it was a time of intense communion for the whole Church.

Because we have the privilege of perpetual adoration of the Blessed Sacrament we didn't do anything "special". We decided that anyone who could would come to Choir at 11AM for silent adoration and then at 11:30 we would have Rosary and Sext as usual. Because it was so hot out, we had the air conditioner on in choir and the grille curtain closed to keep out the hot air. When Sister Sacristan pulled aside the curtain after the Angelus to check on the candlebra that are kept lit all day on Corpus Christi she saw approximately 25 people in the chapel in Adoration. It was heartening to know that all over the world in big and small groups people were doing the same. Perhaps the Holy Father will make this a yearly custom!

Of course, you don't need to wait for the Holy Father to invite you. We are blessed to have Adoration chapels all over the country. Some parishes have adoration every Friday. Ask around and think about signing up for an hour. You won't regret it!
