Devotion to Saint Dominic
We are happy to announce the publication of our newest book: Devotion to Saint Dominic translated by Fr. George Christian, OP (St. Joseph Province)!
Devotion to Saint Dominic was written in French in 1934 by Toulouse Prior Provincial Etienne Vayssiere, OP (1864-1940), in the form of a letter on the occasion of the seventh centenary of the canonization of Saint Dominic. Les Editions du Cerf published the letter in La Vie spirituelle in 1985. Vayssiere, who lived for 32 years as "the hermit of Sainte-Baume", is still revered for his deep spirituality and holiness of life.
Devotion to Saint Dominic is a short little book, only about 54 pages in length, in which Vayssiere endeavors to enable his readers to "know St. Dominic better, to fill oneself with his spirit, to develop a filial confidence in his intercession." If you've read The Spirit of Saint Dominic by Fr. Giardini, OP, you'll find this book to be in beautiful juxtaposition. As Friar Sergio-Thomas Bonino wrote, in the foreword, "Fr. Vayssiere...emphasize[d] how much the ideal of the Order of Friars Preachers, of which Dominic is the shining example, does not reside in a judicious balance between diverse juxtaposed elements, but finds its unity in a personal union with God, the soul of the apostolate."
Devotion to Saint Dominic is available on Amazon.com as a paperback or Kindle and will soon be available in our online gift shop!
