When St. John Paul II came to visit us!

It's true! That's why Pope John Paul II came to the Newark Archdiocese FIRST for his 1995 US trip! Our then archbishop (now Cardinal) McCarrick asked him, "If I bring all the cloistered nuns to the Cathedral will you come?" and he said YES! It was an amazing day! The archbishop even provided transportation for us. We were told not to say anything about how he convinced the Pope to come but word got out anyway! Below is a clip of SAINT John Paul II's entrance into Sacred Heart Cathedral Basilica for Vespers on Oct. 4, 1995. You can see us around 5:28. We all look so young! Sr. Judith Miryam would make her First Profession 2 days later. With us were the nuns from the Newark Monastery and one of them even did the reading at Vespers.
