Celebrating 25 Years!

On October 7, Sr. Judith Miryam celebrated 25 years of profession as a nun of the Order of Preachers! Yesterday, October 17th, was Sister’s public celebration of her Silver Jubilee. Because of Covid the celebration had to be scaled down and the attendee list kept short, but nevertheless Sister was able to celebrate this beautiful milestone with her friends and family. Sr. Judith Miryam’s brother, Vincent Boneski, was in attendance and read the second reading at Mass. Sr. Lucia Marie and Sr. Maria Rose played a lovely organ and flute duet after Communion.

Fr. John Paul Walker, OP, was the main celebrant for the Jubilee Mass while Fr. Roger Landry, Fr. Bogumil Misiuk, and Fr. Patrick Seo concelebrated. Father gave a beautiful homily on Sister’s vocation and her sacrifice of “perfume and dangly earrings” and her work in publishing to follow her call into the cloister. Sister has served the community in many charges over the years. Father spoke of her self-emptying as she cared for our old and infirm sisters in her time as infirmarian. She accompanied more than a handful of sisters on their final journey, giving of herself tirelessly. Sister also served as sacristan, liturgy director, kitchen manager, puppy mistress, as well as nun-in-charge over the construction of the new wing. She also has served in the government of the monastery as both Councillor and Vicaress. Sister has a deep and profound understanding of the vocation of a Dominican Nun and our place in the Order and has given numerous talks on such subjects to a variety of audiences.

After the Mass there was a small reception in the guest quarters and foyer of the new wing. It is our custom that on the occasion of a Jubilee the Jubilarian may exit the enclosure to visit with her guests.
