You thought going to college was exciting? Imagine how we feel with Sr. Lucia Marie of the Visitation heading ‘downstairs’!
For those of you who don’t know, that means that sister is beginning her time of integration and taking the next step in transitioning from our novitiate into the professed community.
Sisters continue to live in the novitiate and under the guidance of the novice mistress for about two years after their first profession. “Integration” is a time of adjusting to life as a professed nun, moving to the professed dormitory (which we call “downstairs”, but is really just down the hall and down a couple steps!) and experiencing more independence as well as taking on more responsibilities. It is also a time of building more closely knit relationships with her fully-professed sisters.
