Fun on the Fourth

This year’s Fourth of July was a beautiful day to celebrate with sunny blue skies and a high of only 80 for the day. An intense game of pickleball was the order of the morning. Our traditional picnic dinner out on the cloister followed, with grilled burgers, hot dogs and brats all donated by a generous friend of the monastery and grilled by our resident grill-master Sr. Mary Magdalene.

In the evening, we closed out recreation by singing patriotic songs, with the national anthem as our grand finale. Rain was forecasted for the afternoon and evening, but never materialized - meaning that the fireworks were on! The more enthusiastic nuns climbed to the roof of the monastery after Compline to watch the Summit fireworks show where we have a great view, while the less limber among us watched from a window downstairs in the new wing.

We thank God for the freedoms we enjoy in this country, most especially the freedom to practice our religion - a freedom which not everyone today enjoys. May God bless our country!
