3:30PM—Veneration of the Cross

"Come, let us worship the wood of the Cross on which hung the Savior of the world."

According to Dominican tradition at the Veneration of the Cross while the Reproaches are being sung, the Sisters go up barefoot to the Cross laid on a pillow in the center of the Choir floor, genuflecting twice before making the venia and then kissing the large (really large!) relic of the True Cross. After the Good Friday service until sundown, the Cross is placed on a table covered with a violet cloth and a candle is kept burning before the relic.
