A Special St. Dominic's Day!
At Mass on Saturday, August 8, the feast of our Holy Father St. Dominic, Sr. Maria Johanna of Our Lady of Grace, O.P. renewed her profession of vows for one year in the hands of our prioress, Sr. Mary Martin, O.P. Three years ago on the feast of St. Dominic she made her first profession of vows in the presence of family and friends. This time the profession took place with just the community present, as the ceremonial of the Order prescribes. This renewal of vows is an important stepping stone to solemn profession, and we all rejoice with our sister as she moves nearer to that goal.
At 10:00 AM on the same day, Saturday, August 8, Kendra Wilhelm entered the enclosure to begin her postulancy. Kendra hails from Amarillo, TX and made the trip here with her parents, Janet and Edmund Wilhelm, and her brother Ryan. A year ago Kendra made her live-in as an aspirant, after which she made the decision to pursue her vocation to this way of life as an extern sister. Prior to this she graduated from Texas A & M with a degree in electrical engineering and worked as a director of youth ministry for a parish in New Mexico. Postulancy lasts for one year and is the first step in the long journey to becoming a Dominican nun. We ask your prayers for these two sisters of ours!
