Welcome, Sr. Marissa!
Yesterday, on the Feast of the Exaltation of the Cross, Sr. Marissa entered the enclosure to begin her year long postulancy, the first step to becoming a Dominican nun. Sr. Marissa is something of a homegrown vocation, hailing from Mahwah, New Jersey. After completing a bachelor’s degree in Mathematics at Villanova University, Sister was working in a library. Sister’s family was able to attend her entrance ceremony at the sanctuary grille (opened for a better view).
After stepping through the enclosure door, the postulant, with the priroess, follows the procession of nuns as they sing Psalm 122 on the way from our Chapter Hall to the Choir.
Covid has changed the entrance ceremony a little bit. Usually the postulant is greeted with a hug from the prioress as she enters through the enclosure door. After the ceremony the postlant is greeted by the whole community with hugs. Not with Covid! We still gathered in the community room to welcome Sr. Marissa, though, before heading back into Choir for Rosary and Vespers.
