Quotidian Life in the Monastery

Our postulants are quickly settling in and learning that, unlike the covid “lockdown”, life in the monastery is never boring. Although our life is regulated by the horarium and the primacy of prayer, especially the Divine Office, everything else has the potential to be an unknown adventure.

Shawn from City fire adjusts one of the pipes that bring the water up to the next floor.

The retrofit for the fire suppression system continues on. Because there are 2 different work crews and due to the nature of the work the men sometime seem to be everywhere. Avoiding them or not getting stuck in a room or hallway has become something of an art form.

One day a small crew was drilling a hole in the floor behind one of the new doors and so the door was closed. The drilling was so loud it could be heard throughout the house. Sister needed to get through but she didn’t know if she could open the door so she timidly knocked. And knocked again, this time a little louder.

One man said to the other, “Did you hear someone knocking?” Sister said, “It’s me! I need to go through!” The workman opened the door visibly relieved. “I thought the knocking was coming from the wall,” he said. As Sister passed them she said, “Sure! You never know. There might be DEAD NUNS in the wall!”

We are happy to share with you that our chapel is now open until 6PM each evening for adoration! The gift shop continues to be open from 10-4 each day but Sunday.

Sr. Mary Catharine and Sr. Mary Ana have been working hard processing new inventory and there are some lovely new items available and of course, new books. Do stop by some day and browse. We try to find items that will help you grow in your faith and spiritual life.

Rosary Sunday is this Sunday, October 4th. We are limited to about 75-80 people so come early to get a seat. What better time to join us in asking our Lady’s help through the rosary for the end to this virus and for the upcoming presidential elections.
