Free for God Alone
In this new series of blog posts, we’ll explain and illustrate our monastic life through pictures of everyday life as a cloistered Dominican Nun, whose life is “free for God alone.”
“Before all else, dear Sisters, love God and then your neighbor, because these are the chief commandments given to us.”
-Rule of St. Augustine
This is the opening line of the Rule of St. Augustine, which we follow as Dominican nuns. St. Augustine focuses us immediately on the most important essentials in our life: to love God, and to love our neighbor. The whole rest of our life is meant to help us grow in these two areas, and reminds us to focus, even in the little things (like dusting all that woodwork in choir!) on doing them out of love.
