A blessing for a … tricycle?
Yep! You heard that right. Sr Mary Agnes had been praying to Bl. Carlo Acutis, her special heavenly friend, for a tricycle. Well, her prayer was answered earlier this month. She wanted it blessed before riding it, so after we finally finished getting it all assembled and working, we asked our chaplain Fr. Elias to bless it on the feast day of Bl. Carlo Acutis. Now, unsurprisingly, there is not an entry for tricycles in the Book of Blessings, so Fr. Elias exercised a bit of creativity. We had a short scripture reading from the book of Ezekiel:
As I looked at the living creatures, I saw wheels on the ground, one alongside each of the four living creatures. The wheels and their construction sparkled like yellow topaz, and all four of them looked the same: their construction seemed as though one wheel was inside the other. When they moved, they went in any of the four directions without veering as they moved. The four of them had rims, high and fearsome—eyes filled the four rims all around. (Ezekiel 1:15-18)
After the reading, Fr. Elias sprinkled the tricycle with holy water and said a prayer of blessing, asking that those who ride it be kept safe and enjoy it. And enjoying it we are - Sr. Mary Agnes can now be seen out on a nice morning taking a spin for a bit of exercise!
Meanwhile, you may have noticed a new face in the pictures above! We recently welcomed Sr. Dominic Mary as a temporary transfer to our monastery. Sr. Dominic Mary has been working in our candle department and printshop, and among her many other talents, she plays the violin!
